OPEN RANK TENURE OR NON-TENURE FACULTY FOR CLINICAL SKILLS LEAD IN VETERINARY MEDICINE

Clemson, SC

One of the country’s most selective public research universities, Clemson University serves a uniquely driven and highly accomplished student body.

Ranked consistently as one of the best national public university by  U.S.News & World Report, Clemson is a science- and engineering-oriented college dedicated to teaching, research and service. Founded in 1889, we remain committed both to world-class research and a high quality of life. In fact, 91 percent of our seniors say they’d pick Clemson again if they had it to do over.

Clemson’s retention and graduation rates rank among the highest in the country for public universities. We’ve been named among the best values by  Kiplinger  magazine in 2013, and SmartMoney  in 2012 ranked us No. 7 in student return on investment.

Our beautiful college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the shores of Hartwell Lake. But we also have research facilities and economic development hubs throughout the state of South Carolina — in Greenville, Greenwood, Columbia and Charleston.

The new Clemson University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of the DVM Clinical Skills curriculum. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. Academic rank would be commensurate with experience.

The Clinical Skills Lead will play a vital role in developing and delivering the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC. The Clinical Skills unit will be taught across the first 3 years of the program and is designed to provide Clemson DVM students with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to be a competent and confident veterinarian using both simulation and live animal experiences. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff, the individual in this position will be responsible for guiding faculty in the creation, integration, organization, implementation, and evaluation of courses in the Clinical Skills unit. This faculty member will work closely with the unit leads for Foundational Science and Professional Development, ensuring students achieve proficiency in all necessary competencies before progressing to the partially distributive clinical year of the curriculum.

Information about the proposed curriculum is available here – https://www.clemson.edu/veterinary-medicine/students/curriculum.html

Overview of Clemson and the CVM

Located in South Carolina’s beautiful and fast-growing upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country’s top 50 national public universities in the U.S. News & World Report. The University has nearly 23,400 students (including nearly 18,600 undergraduates) who can select from 80 undergraduate and 110 graduate degree programs. Clemson employs over 1,150 full-time faculty and has an annual budget expenditure of over $900 million. Clemson University maintains its status as an R1 research university while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education.

The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of education for students’ fourth year clinical experience. Its brand-new state of the art main campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.

In 2023, the Board of Trustees approved Clemson Elevate, the university’s new strategic plan. Clemson Elevate is built on 3 pillars: deliver the #1 student experience, double research by 2035, and transform lives statewide and beyond. The College of Veterinary Medicine was named in Clemson Elevate as a strategic priority for the university, demonstrating the importance of the new college to the future of the university and the state. It’s never been a better time to come to South Carolina for veterinary medical education, and we’re excited to attract a team of top talent as we build the new college.
