Clemson, SCOne of the country’s most selective public research universities, Clemson University serves a uniquely driven and highly accomplished student body.
Ranked consistently as one of the best national public university by U.S.News & World Report, Clemson is a science- and engineering-oriented college dedicated to teaching, research and service. Founded in 1889, we remain committed both to world-class research and a high quality of life. In fact, 91 percent of our seniors say they’d pick Clemson again if they had it to do over.
Clemson’s retention and graduation rates rank among the highest in the country for public universities. We’ve been named among the best values by Kiplinger magazine in 2013, and SmartMoney in 2012 ranked us No. 7 in student return on investment.
Our beautiful college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the shores of Hartwell Lake. But we also have research facilities and economic development hubs throughout the state of South Carolina — in Greenville, Greenwood, Columbia and Charleston.
The Clemson University School of Architecture (CUSoA) invites applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Architecture, in architectural design and architectural history and theory, beginning August 15, 2025. Salary will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments at the assistant professor level.
We expect the successful candidate to have and maintain a clear research agenda and communicate their research through publications and/or other forms of peer-to-peer or public dissemination. The successful candidate will teach at different levels across the curriculum in undergraduate, Master’s or PhD programs. The teaching load consists of a core or advanced design studio along with a core lecture course or seminar in architectural history and theory each Fall and Spring semester. All faculty are expected to support the operations of the program, school, college, and/or university through service on committees or other leadership roles.
CUSoA provides multiple pathways in the discipline of Architecture, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree program. The accredited degree program of Master of Architecture includes an option for an Architecture, Society and the City certificate focusing on history and theory. The cross-disciplinary Design and the Built Environment PhD Program also offers history and theory as a research area.
