Clemson, SCOne of the country’s most selective public research universities, Clemson University serves a uniquely driven and highly accomplished student body.
Ranked consistently as one of the best national public university by U.S.News & World Report, Clemson is a science- and engineering-oriented college dedicated to teaching, research and service. Founded in 1889, we remain committed both to world-class research and a high quality of life. In fact, 91 percent of our seniors say they’d pick Clemson again if they had it to do over.
Clemson’s retention and graduation rates rank among the highest in the country for public universities. We’ve been named among the best values by Kiplinger magazine in 2013, and SmartMoney in 2012 ranked us No. 7 in student return on investment.
Our beautiful college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the shores of Hartwell Lake. But we also have research facilities and economic development hubs throughout the state of South Carolina — in Greenville, Greenwood, Columbia and Charleston.
The Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (EEES) at Clemson University invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Earth Sciences commencing in the Fall 2025 semester. The Program is housed within the EEES Department in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences. The candidate must have a PhD in Geosciences, Geophysics, Geological Engineering, or a closely related discipline. This individual should have strong scholarly research output and interests in cutting edge topics that will complement the existing strengths of the Hydrogeology and Geology programs within the EEES department. Preference will be given to candidates whose research program integrates Earth Systems Analysis into opportune topics such as climate change, greenhouse gas control, geothermal energy and energy storage, geologic hydrogen production, hydrogeophysics, and coupled groundwater, surface water, and/or atmospheric processes. A desirable candidate will be able to combine field observations with quantitative analysis.
The candidate is expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to teach geophysics and geostatistics is desirable. Development of new courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level will be encouraged. The candidate will be expected to advise MS and PhD students in the EEES Department, and to develop a high-quality, externally funded research program. The successful candidate is also expected to support a culture of inclusive excellence and belonging; foster a vibrant teaching portfolio in Hydrogeology and Geology courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and engage and prepare students for successful and impactful careers in industry, government, or academia. Participation in activities that promote the Hydrogeology and Geology programs will be encouraged. Excellent opportunities exist for research and teaching collaboration with colleagues in the Program, Department, School and University. Information is available at:

Clemson University recently created the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (SCEEES) that houses the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (EEES). SCEEES is home to nearly 60 faculty, 200 graduate students, and 575 undergraduates. The School has established and is growing expertise in the following four thematic areas: Smart City Service (managing risk and security); Resilient Communities (natural and technological disasters mitigation); Engineering the Surface and Subsurface (dry land, clean water, and water security); and Engineering the Earth’s Ecosphere (air quality, greenhouse gas removal, managing solid and nuclear wastes).
