JOB SUMMARY:

 

Clemson University is seeking an impactful and forward-thinking leader to serve as the University Registrar in the Division of Enrollment Management. 

The University Registrar at Clemson University is a key leadership role dedicated to the effective management of academic records, registration services, and degree awarding functions. This position oversees the integrity, security, and accessibility of student records, ensuring compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards. The Registrar collaborates closely with academic and administrative units to support the strategic goals of the university, enhance student success, and optimize registration and records processes for a seamless student experience. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to innovation, data-driven decision-making, and a student-centered approach.

The Office of Records and Registration is the steward of official student academic records and is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and security of those records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). In partnership with various campus units, the office implements, supports and upholds academic policies related to class and event scheduling, registration services, enrollment and degree verification, assessment of tuition and fees, grade processing, degree audit configuration, and printing of official academic transcripts and diplomas.

Reporting to the AVP for Enrollment Management, the University Registrar plays a key role in advancing Enrollment Management¿s mission to drive efforts and align resources to recruit, admit, enroll, retain, and graduate diverse, highly qualified students. Committed to excellence and access and through university-wide collaborations, division services provide a quality foundation for the Clemson Experience from initial interactions through graduation.

JOB DUTIES:

 

The University Registrar will

  • Develop and implement a student-centric vision for the department. Lead, develop, and manage a high-performing registrar office team, promoting a supportive, student-focused culture and fostering professional growth. Create partnerships and collaborate with academic and administrative leaders and external stakeholders to support strategic enrollment management goals, develop and implement academic policies, processes, and systems that optimize the student experience and support the evolving needs of the institution. Serve as a key resource for faculty and staff regarding academic policies, registration procedures, and student records.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies affecting student records and compliance. Ensure institutional compliance with policies related to FERPA, Title IX, NCAA regulations, Veterans' Education Benefits, and accreditation standards. Develop and update internal policies and procedures to address gaps, mitigate risks, and promote equity, security, and best practices in record-keeping and academic processes.
  • In collaboration with academic and administrative departments, lead, develop, and implement strategies that optimize the registration experience, maximize course availability and scheduling, promote timely degree completion and efficient use of instructional resources, and ensure that registration processes are accessible, equitable, and student focused. Manage academic calendar development, registration timelines, processes, and holds, ensuring that course offerings align with student demand and institutional priorities. 
  • Create and maintain a sustainable strategy for academic records management, including accurate and timely maintenance of student records, course schedules, registration systems, and graduation data. Collaborate with Business Analysts, Computing and Information Technology, and Institutional Research to develop data solutions that enhance student services, improve data accuracy, streamline registrar operations, and support institutional reporting. Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of student data within the university's student information system (SIS). Partner with academic departments to manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date course catalogs and degree requirements. Oversee the degree audit process, ensuring accurate and timely identification of degree requirements for students. Support new program development by ensuring that curriculum information aligns with the SIS and academic policies.
  • Develop strategic alignment among graduation application, certification, and awarding processes, procedures, and communications to ensure the graduation process is a true capstone to Clemson's number one student experience. Oversee the commencement and degree conferral processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessment of graduation requirements for all students. Coordinate with academic units to support students in meeting graduation requirements and improving the efficiency of the graduation audit and certification process. Lead the planning and execution of Clemson's commencement ceremonies, coordinating with faculty, staff, and external partners to deliver a high-quality experience for students, families, and the university community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 
  • Master's degree in education, higher education administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in a registrar's office or a similar area within higher education. Experience with enterprise student systems and understanding of FERPA policies.
  • Experience in a selective, research-focused institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing student success through innovative, data-driven strategies.     
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, NCAA regulations, Veteran's Educational Benefits, and other federal and state policies affecting student records and academic compliance.
  • Experience with student information systems, data management, and technology-driven process improvements.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Essential Level 1 employee
Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
