Clemson, SCOne of the country’s most selective public research universities, Clemson University serves a uniquely driven and highly accomplished student body.
Ranked consistently as one of the best national public university by U.S.News & World Report, Clemson is a science- and engineering-oriented college dedicated to teaching, research and service. Founded in 1889, we remain committed both to world-class research and a high quality of life. In fact, 91 percent of our seniors say they’d pick Clemson again if they had it to do over.
Clemson’s retention and graduation rates rank among the highest in the country for public universities. We’ve been named among the best values by Kiplinger magazine in 2013, and SmartMoney in 2012 ranked us No. 7 in student return on investment.
Our beautiful college campus sits on 1,400 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the shores of Hartwell Lake. But we also have research facilities and economic development hubs throughout the state of South Carolina — in Greenville, Greenwood, Columbia and Charleston.
The new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of the clinical pathology curriculum within the DVM program. The primary responsibilities of this position are teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. The anticipated start date for this appointment is approximately September 1, 2026.
The clinical pathology faculty member will play a vital role in developing and delivering the second and third year of the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC. Utilizing the classroom, microscopy lab, live animals, and teaching technology, this faculty member will provide students with an applied and clinical science-based education in clinical pathology, preparing them to progress into more advanced coursework. Working collaboratively with other faculty and staff, the content in the Clinical Pathology course will align with the coursework occurring simultaneously in the Disease Animal course series, the Clinical Skills and Professional Development courses in the second year of the DVM program and building on the Healthy Animal course series from year 1. This faculty member will help ensure students achieve the necessary milestones in all pre-clinical competencies.
Additionally, the clinical pathology faculty member will provide consultation, as needed, on cases seen by the faculty on the Clemson Ambulatory Service and in the Clemson Community Clinic (spectrum of care clinic for companion animals).

Overview of Clemson and the CVM
Located in South Carolina’s beautiful and fast-growing Upstate, Clemson University is the land-grant university of South Carolina and ranks among the country’s top 50 national public universities in the U.S. News & World Report. The University has nearly 23,400 students (including nearly 18,600 undergraduates) who can select from 80 undergraduate and 110 graduate degree programs. Clemson employs over 1,150 full-time faculty and has an annual budget expenditure of over $900M. Clemson University maintains its status as an R1 Carnegie Research Institution while maintaining a strong focus on undergraduate education.
The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a semi-distributive model of clinical training for students which will include an on-campus, full-service ambulatory practice and low-cost companion animal community clinic. Its brand-new state of the art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.
In 2023, the Board of Trustees approved Clemson Elevate, the university’s new strategic plan. Clemson Elevate is built on 3 pillars: deliver the #1 student experience, double research by 2035, and transform lives statewide and beyond. The CVM was named as a strategic priority for the university, demonstrating the importance of the new college to the future of the university and the state. We are excited to attract a team of top talent as we build the new college.
