JOB SUMMARY:
Provide strategic financial leadership and oversight for assigned departments within the College of Arts & Humanities, ensuring sound fiscal management and compliance. This role leads a small team of departmental accountants and serves as a subject matter expert in designed specialty areas. Other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
30% - Essential - Manage Financial Operations: Oversee daily financial activities for assigned departments, including processing budget amendments and financial journals, reviewing and approving payroll corrections, requisitions, and Concur expense reports. Monitor and analyze departmental revenues and expenditures, clearing errors and ensuring accuracy of transactions. Liaise with department staff to verify HR information, reconcile payroll, and manage budgetary approval of payroll action requests and summer compensation. Serve as a resource for financial matters in assigned departments, providing guidance and resolving operational issues.
25% - Essential - Lead Budget Planning & Fiscal Analysis: Collaborate with the CBO and department chairs in the preparation, review, and implementation of annual budgets. Collect and evaluate departmental budget submissions to ensure accuracy, balance, and reasonableness before. Analyze budgets by comparing proposed budgets to actual expenditures and initiate corrective actions when discrepancies arise. Forecase revenue generation, track commitments, and manage internal program funds, including graduate and college award budgets. Work with other Business Center Managers and the CBO to share strategies and align budget-planning approaches, ensuring consistent processes across the college.
20% - Essential - Direct Financial Forecasting & Reporting: Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports for College and University leadership. Project fiscal performance based on budget-to-actual trends, historical data, and operational knowledge of assigned departments. Provide monthly updates to the CBO, including performance projections and year-end forecasts. Develop comprehensive reports that inform date-driven decisions and predict long-term resource needs. Apply subject matter expertise in gift and endowment fund administration to review, interpret, and guide the appropriate use of funds. Ensure compliance with donor agreements and governing policies, provide technical guidance to fellow Business Center Managers and departments, and support informed decision-making related to fund utilization and stewardship.
10% - Essential - Ensure Compliance & Internal Controls: Maintain and update accurate financial records in compliance with University, State, and Federal policies, including state retention requirements. Conduct internal audits of departmental accounting transactions and reconcile budget adjustments for compliance and accuracy. Review backup documentation for adherence to University, State, and CU Foundation requirements. Advise CBO on implementation strategies to ensure ongoing compliance and risk mitigation. Collaborate with other Business Center Managers to align compliance procedures, ensuring consistency across all departments.
15% - Essential - Provide Supervision, Training, Guidance, & Process Improvement: Supervise, mentor, and support a team of department accountants responsible for assigned cost centers. Assign and prioritize work, provide onboarding and ongoing training on financial systems, policies, and procedures, and offer coaching to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistent application of financial practices. Monitor performance, provide feedback, and support professional development. Identify and implement process improvements to reduce errors, increase efficiency, and strengthen financial operations across the college. Collaborate with fellow Business Center Managers to share expertise, align practices, and ensure consistent applications of policies and procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned to support CAH and Clemson University's financial operations. Temporarily fill duties as needed to ensure business continuity.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - 1st Bachelor's Degree - in accounting, finance, business or related field and professional experience directly related.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range ($ 52,100.00 - $ 65,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
