JOB SUMMARY:
Clemson University's Network Services and Telecommunications Team is looking for a Wireless Engineer to fulfill the following duties:
- The Wireless Engineer supports the planning, design, and deployment of enterprise wireless networks with a strong emphasis on predictive RF modeling and wireless design validation.
- This role assists senior engineers in designing high-performance Wi-Fi networks using predictive design tools, analyzing RF behavior, and ensuring wireless coverage, capacity, and reliability meet organizational requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Network Design and Implementation:
Assist in developing predictive wireless designs for both new and existing environments to include both pre-deployment designs as well as post-deployment validation. Engineer will also be responsible for verifying physical install of network equipment deployed by personnel outside the organization.
40% - Essential - Debugging and Monitoring:
Act as wireless subject matter expert and trouble ticket escalation resource for wireless infrastructure related issues. Continually monitor wireless network and look for opportunities to improve performance. Present and discuss findings to senior engineers.
10% - Essential - Professional Development:
Maintain working knowledge of IEEE 802.11 protocol to include new amendments as they arise. Be prepared to make recommendations on how changes to the protocol affect Clemson's network and any changes that should be implemented.
10% - Essential - Research Network Support:
Limited travel to in-state sites to act as remote hands for engineers operating on the state research network. This potentially involves any site around the state where SC-REN (South Carolina Research Education Network) has a presence. Ability to setup a remote console and basic familiarity with layer 2/3 network equipment is required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field
Work Experience - Experience in computer system development and modification. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Work Experience - 3+ years experience in general networking, 1+ years experience wireless network focus
- Experience working on enterprise, controller-based, wireless networks
- Experience in predictive design tools such as Ekahau or Hamina
- Experience with both Cisco and Juniper network equipment
Certifications:
- Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)
- Ekahau ECSE Design (ECSE-Design) or similar
- Vendor wireless certifications (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper Mist)

WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hours: 37.5 Hours / Week
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range: ($ 66,400.00 - $ 119,500.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
