JOB SUMMARY:

 

Performs locksmith and related duties requiring routine and advanced degrees of professional skills and technical knowledge. Performs routine maintenance and installation of locks, doors, door closers, exterior and interior door security systems for university buildings. Provides training and mentorship to less experienced employees. Serves as lead in absence of lead.  Subject to callback and unscheduled hours as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

50% - Essential - Security and Locking Systems Maintenance: Designs and implements locking systems for new and existing buildings. Writes specifications for replacement doors and hardware. Performs maintenance in specialty field of door hardware and multilevel master-keyed security systems. Coordinates with access control vendor in the installation of electronic door hardware and electronic key boxes. Orders and installs doors and hardware in routine maintenance situations. Reviews blueprints and hardware schedules for new construction. Receives and transports material to and from job sites. Assists in maintaining a multilevel master key security system for all housing and university facilities, including annual full-time student turnaround, Summer Programs, administrative support, and contract work for facilities. Maintains the master key systems and all related documents at the highest level of security. Maintains an inventory of key blanks, lock cores, and other repair parts for mechanical or electric locks. Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs locking mechanisms, including panic exit devices. Perform minor carpentry as it pertains to door and hardware installation.
20% - Essential - Locks, Keys, and Lock Master Codes: Operates key duplication machines, key cutters to make keys for new and existing locks. Repairs locks and mechanisms on office furniture. Cuts keys and builds cores for lock changes needed in all university buildings. Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs locking mechanisms, including panic exit devices, mortise and cylindrical locks and office furniture. Maintains an inventory of key blanks, lock cores, and other repair parts for mechanical or electric locks. Operates lock mortise machines, hinge butt routers, cylindrical boring jigs, and related tools in the repair of doors and door hardware.
10% - Essential - ADA Operator Repair: Perform repairs and programing on existing ADA automatic operators.
10% - Essential - Training and Mentorship: Leads, guides, and/or trains others in applicable procedures and techniques. Completes the required training and testing to maintain applicable licensing, and compliance for industry and University. Train associate personnel to work with ADA operators.
10% - Essential - Safety: Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE policy. Complies with all EPA/DHEC rules. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  High School Diploma or Equivalent and formal training or trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Work Exp 3+ years

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Anticipated Salary Range: ($ 39,300.00 - $ 46,435.00.00)
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Essential Level 1 employee
Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
