JOB SUMMARY:

Clemson University¿s Research Computing & Data Engagement - RCDE Team is looking for a Senior HPC Facilitator to fulfill the following duties:

  • Clemson¿s research support team (Research Computing & Data Engagement - RCDE) seeks an experienced research facilitator to serve within its Advanced Computing and Data Services (ACDS) group as part of Clemson¿s broader AI initiative.
  • The candidate¿s skill set should include expertise in one or more scientific knowledge domains (e.g., mathematics, materials science, engineering, bioinformatics, bioengineering, physics, environmental science, etc.), along with experience in high performance, data-intensive, and AI-enabled computing.
  • A strong interest in supporting and training faculty and students in advanced and AI-driven research methods is essential.
  • The incumbent will work as part of the research support team, Clemson IT organization, and national community of research facilitators, collaborating on solutions that advance AI and computational research at Clemson.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

30% - Essential - Research Support: Support the wide range of disciplines in Clemson¿s advanced cyberinfrastructure and AI ecosystem. Support and improve performance of scientific and AI-enabled application codes; collaborate with researchers and colleagues at other research centers in applying advanced computing and AI methods to research problems. Work with researchers from a variety of disciplines to understand their applications, AI workflows, and performance needs. Assist researchers in leveraging parallel, GPU, DGX, and AI-accelerated architectures supported by Clemson University (RCDE group). Assist researchers in finding, developing, and optimizing high-performance and AI-driven research software. Coordinate with cluster administrators concerning the needs of the Clemson research computing and AI community and facilitate user-friendly access to those resources. Respond to reported problems and provide solutions.
30% - Essential - Training & Outreach: Provide guidance to existing and potential users on how to use the cluster and AI resources for their research projects through both one-on-one consultations and training sessions, including assistance with code compiling, AI workflows, workflow management, software installation, and data management. Facilitate and develop training programs aligned with Clemson¿s advanced cyber infrastructure and AI initiative. Train researchers on parallel computing, high-performance techniques, and AI/ML methodologies. Understand and convey current trends in research computing and AI technologies to the user community. Write user guides, informational materials, and documentation. Work closely with faculty and graduate students to understand their research and AI needs, developing solutions and funding strategies; and actively pursue infrastructure- and AI-related funding opportunities and partnerships. Teach training courses in areas such as Linux, Research Computing, Data Science, and AI/ML.
25% - Essential - Design & Development: Design and implement solutions to support research collaborations, including those involving AI/ML, with both software and hardware components and varied functional and performance requirements. Build tools and support architectures to facilitate computational and AI workflows and organize experiments using best practices. Develop scripts to support cluster, AI environment, and user management, and assist the Research Computing & Data,  Infrastructure (RCDI) team in creating cluster- and AI-related software applications. Develop software for existing and new infrastructure and AI-focused development projects and provide advanced support for the cluster and related systems.
15% - Essential - Professional Development: Maintain familiarity with emerging techniques and technologies in research computing and AI. Participate in training, education, and development activities to improve knowledge and performance and enhance professional growth. Maintain familiarity with scientific visualization and AI-related tools and technologies. Attend relevant academic and professional conferences, including those focused on AI and advanced computing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Bachelor¿s Degree 

Work Experience - Experience in automated information or communication system design, installation, operation, repair, sales or marketing. Related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Education - Doctoral / Professional Degree - Mathematics, Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics

Work Experience - 3+ Years advanced programming in Python or C/C++. Familiarity with Linux and HPC.
Familiarity with Linux. Extensive programming experience in  Python or C/C++; using large-scale HPC clusters and/or analyzing large datasets; research experience.

Standard Hours: 37.5 Hours / Week

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range: $ 66,400.00 - $ 119,500.00

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
