JOB SUMMARY:
The Electrical Project Manager oversees the planning, design, and execution of new construction and renovation projects with a primary focus on electrical systems while also working with other assigned projects as needed. This role ensures that projects align with University, State and Federal standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while delivering high-quality results within budget and on schedule. The Electrical Project Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams, including design professionals, contractors, Utilities and Maintenance Teams, and University stakeholders, to achieve project objectives. This position requires expertise in managing complex electrical integration within campus infrastructure and have experience in alternative delivery procurement methods such as Construction Manager at Risk (CM-R) and Design-Build (D-B). The projects assigned could range from $10K up to $75M. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
55% - Essential - Project Management:
Manages the full lifecycle of construction projects ranging from $10K to $75M, with a strong focus on electrical systems with other systems as assigned based on division requirements.
Leads electrical design and construction efforts, ensuring compatibility with existing campus infrastructure and future scalability.
Develops project scope, objectives, and detailed technical specifications in collaboration with engineers, contractors, and university stakeholders based on project needs.
Evaluates project feasibility and ensures alignment with university standards, state and federal codes, and industry best practices.
Have Experience Overseeing alternative delivery procurement methods such as Construction Manager at Risk (CM-R) and Design-Build (D-B) to optimize project outcomes.
Ensures electrical system reliability and redundancy by coordinating with campus utilities, power distribution networks, and emergency backup systems.
Develops and implements risk mitigation strategies, including contingency planning for power failures and system redundancies.
Identifies potential risks related to electrical safety, power distribution, energy efficiency, and system compatibility.
Ensures adherence to National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements to minimize hazards.
Works with university safety and facilities teams to address arc flash hazards, short-circuit coordination, and overcurrent protection.
20% - Essential - Financial and Schedule Control:
For all assigned projects, maintains comprehensive financial and schedule oversight, ensuring projects remain within budget and are completed on time. Regularly updates customers, university leadership, and key stakeholders on project schedules and progress.
Assesses, develops, and manages detailed project budgets, ensuring proper allocation of funding while delivering high-quality, functional results. Evaluates and recommends budget adjustments as needed to accommodate electrical system complexities, long-lead equipment procurement, and unforeseen site conditions. Manages multi-source funded contracts, including contingency planning to mitigate financial risks.
Oversees and coordinates internal and external project teams, including design professionals, electrical engineers, contractors, and university facilities staff, ensuring seamless execution of all electrical components. Maintains detailed project records, including cost tracking, schedule adjustments, and contract documentation.
Provides accurate cost estimates and continuously updates financial projections, particularly when project start dates shift. Develops and manages detailed project schedules, ensuring coordination of electrical infrastructure installation, power shutdowns, and commissioning activities. Offers expert guidance on scheduling strategies and recommends incentive clauses in contracts to optimize timely project delivery.
Actively enforces contractual requirements, ensuring adherence to electrical system standards, procurement regulations, and construction milestones. Leads bid reviews, evaluates contractor proposals, and addresses bid irregularities, providing strategic recommendations on contract awards.
Provides technical and administrative support to other project managers, serving as a subject matter expert on electrical project execution, risk mitigation, and compliance with industry regulations.
15% - Essential - Coordination and Consultation:
Serves as the primary liaison for electrical project scope between university leadership, faculty, maintenance staff, and external consultants on assigned projects
Conducts progress meetings and prepares technical reports for project stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication.
Coordinates with Maintenance, campus IT, security, Utilities, and energy management teams to integrate electrical infrastructure with technology systems.
Engages with utility providers to ensure seamless power distribution, metering, and energy optimization strategies.
Reviews electrical designs for constructability, Code compliance, and long-term maintainability.
Ensures power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, fire alarms, and other relevant systems meet project specifications.
Conducts inspections, testing, and commissioning of electrical installations to verify operational integrity.
Implements energy-efficient solutions, including LED lighting retrofits, smart metering, and renewable energy integration where applicable.
10% - Essential - Training & Mentorship:
Engages in project management training and workshops to develop and refine leadership and coordination skills.
Provides technical guidance and support to staff and project managers throughout all phases of design and construction.
Actively participates in industry workshops, training programs, and professional organizations to stay informed about the latest advancements in electrical engineering.
Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, quality, and innovation of project delivery.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal
Work Experience: 3 years experience in Project Management with focus on Electrical Projects
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree - Science in Electrical Engineering (or) related field
Work Experience: 8+ years; Successful completion of a minimum of (4) State projects with a project value of over $1M each & at least (2) CM-R or D-B project with a project value over $10M.SC Licensed Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, Licensed General Contractor, or Project Management Professional, USGBC LEED AP or Green Globes Professional

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Anticpated Salary Range: ($ 56,210.00 - $ 80,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
