Clemson University invites internal applications for the position of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Learning (AD). We are seeking a colleague to join a collaborative team as we contribute to the Clemson Elevate strategic plan by supporting the delivery of the #1 Student Experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to accomplish goals and objectives through innovation and collaboration, a passion for providing all of our undergraduate students an unparalleled academic experience, and the ability to navigate sensitive concerns from students, their families, staff, and faculty members.
As an AD, you will be responsible for leadership of our efforts in the following areas: Experiential Learning
• Lead initiatives and collaborate with faculty and other partners across campus in building programs designed to provide undergraduate students with innovative and high-impact experiential learning opportunities.
• Partner with the director of the CU-ExL SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) to support faculty in CU-ExL course development and integration of experiential learning into curricula, track student participation in experiential learning, identify participation gaps, and document the competencies students acquire.
• Serve as a member of the university’s Advisory Board for Experiential Learning. Amplify Student Success
• Provide leadership for initiatives related to educational and pedagogical excellence to improve student retention and graduation rates, mitigate success gaps, and elevate student learning in gateway courses.
• Collaborate with the graduate school and OTEI on appropriate roles and training for graduate teaching assistants and graduate teachers of record.
• Support students, academic advisors, and recruiters in the review of course/requirement substitutions and transfer course evaluations related to the General Education curriculum.
• Actively inform advisors on issues pertaining to the General Education Curriculum as a non-voting member of the Academic Advising Committee and other academic advising committees as needed.
• Provide leadership and support to faculty on curricular matters.
• Work with the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation, colleges, and departments to support the use of best practices for teaching and learning. General Education Curriculum Development
• Chair the General Education Committee and provide leadership for undergraduate general education curriculum development, including management, review, and revision of the general education curriculum.
• Serve as an ex-officio member of the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and other curriculum committees as needed.
• Provide support to faculty members developing curricular innovations and incorporating pedagogical improvements into courses and programs. You will also have the opportunity to remain connected to your disciplinary expertise through teaching, research, mentoring students, and/or attending conferences in your discipline.
