The Department of Mechanical Engineering inside the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE) at Clemson University invites applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the Assistant and/or Associate Professor rank to begin in August 2025. Appointments at the Professor rank may also be considered for candidates with experience and qualifications appropriate at the level of Full Professor. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a named or endowed professorship.
While candidates in all areas related to Mechanical Engineering will be considered, the preference will be given to those candidates whose research lies within the fields of Dynamics including Robotics, Vibrations, & Acoustics, and aligns with one or more of the following focus areas: Energy, Transportation and Sustainability; Health Innovation and Human Resilience; Cyberinfrastructure, Machine Learning, AI, and Data Science. The Department and College are committed to fostering interdisciplinary research that can address grand challenges facing our society and innovate through a balance of fundamental and translational research. Collaboration with entities outside engineering and science is also highly encouraged.
The Department has over 35 tenured/tenure track faculty and full-time/part-time lecturers actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. The Department occupies a modern research and education facility on the main Clemson, SC campus and has an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Clemson University is a public land- grant institution ranked in the top 25 public institutions in America, according to recent Wall Street Journal/College Pulse rankings and is classified as a Tier 1 Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation. The Clemson campus is located between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC, near Greenville, SC, along the I-85 corridor in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina. Clemson is serviced by the Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP), Atlanta, and Charlotte airports and by Amtrak. The Department also has a graduate education center in Charleston, SC, with activities associated with the world’s most advanced wind-turbine drivetrain testing facility.
