JOB SUMMARY:
Provides support for the research, teaching, and extension programs conducted at the Piedmont REC-Simpson Beef Cattle Farm. Feeds, breeds, calves, and provides daily care and management of the beef cattle herd and bull testing program. Assists project leaders and graduate students conducting research and undergraduate teaching program. Work may include some nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Animal Husbandry:
Calves the cow herd and provides assistance with dystocia problems. Weighs, tags, tattoos, castrates, implants, and keeps accurate records on calves and cows. Keeps up to date inventory and accurate records on all calves, cows, bulls, and steers. Breeds replacement heifers and cows using artificial insemination and natural mating with bulls. Assist with feeding duties and grazing management.
30% - Essential - Animal Health:
Carries out prescribed herd health program for all calves and cows. Recognizes and reports sick or injured animals to the farm manager and university veterinarian. Treats animals and keeps records of treatment. Keeps accurate records on daily observations, management procedures, and vaccinations performed. Maintains electronic record keeping program for herd.
20% - Essential - Personnel and Facilities:
Directs farm staff and students working at the beef farm to perform duties. Assists in maintenance of buildings, facilities, fences, and equipment.
10% - Essential - Research and Teaching:
Carries out protocols for research projects and teaching activities. Cares for, feeds, and collects data on animals assigned to research and teaching projects. Directs staff, graduate, and undergraduate workers assigned to these projects.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree - Animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and experience in agricultural research or animal c
Work Experience - 1+ years
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses - Drivers License Class A CDL, Beef Quality Assurance

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Anticipated Salary Range: $37,200 - $45,000
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain/resume essential support functions, deliver direct care services, and/or provide recovery support before normal operations resume. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
