JOB SUMMARY:

 

Serve as academic advisor for students in the Department of Biological Sciences. Assist faculty and staff advisors in management of the advising center. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

65% - Essential - Student Advising:  

Advise and counsel undergraduate students concerning degree progress, scheduling conflicts, course selection and registration, and academic standing.  Work with students to develop a program leading to a timely graduation while directing them toward their chosen career paths.  Prepare and coordinate academic forms and conduct analysis of degree progress for graduation.  Prepare, administer, and document materials for advising and registration.  Refer students to appropriate campus resources/services as needed.
20% - Essential - Student Recruitment & Orientation:  

Assist in the recruitment and advising of potential and accepted students, providing them with information regarding courses, transfer credit evaluation, degrees, and other departmental information.  Participates in departmental/college recruiting and retention activities and contributes to recruitment/retention strategy development and implementation.  Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of spring & summer new student orientation sessions.
10% - Essential - Academic and Student Support Services:  

Advise and assist students planning to change their major to biological sciences and microbiology.  Work with faculty and staff in the department to recommend and insert edits into the Undergraduate Handbook.  Identify barriers within academic advising and curricula, and present information to advising director.
5% - Essential - Perform other advising-related duties, complete special projects, serve on committees, and attend events as requested by the Supervisor or Department Chair.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education -  Bachelor's Degree and experience in student services programs 
 

Work Experience 1+ years

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Supervisory Duties - Not responsible for supervising employees.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Anticipated Salary Range: $39,000 - $50,125

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
