JOB SUMMARY:

 

Performs locksmith and related duties requiring basic professional skills and technical knowledge. Performs routine maintenance and installation of locks, doors, door closures, exterior and interior door security systems for university buildings under supervision of experienced Locksmiths. Progresses from entry through advanced semi-skilled abilities by proven service and successful trade related vocational instruction.Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

 

70% - Essential - Assists experienced locksmiths by performing on-the-job training in locksmith related duties including repair, installing doors and hardware, record-keeping, and maintenance of university buildings. Assists in maintaining a multilevel master key security system for all University facilities, including annual full-time student turnaround, Summer Programs, administrative support, and contract work for facilities. Maintains the master key system at the highest level of security. Assists in the design and implementation of locking systems for new and existing buildings. Assists in writing specifications for replacement doors and hardware. Partners with experienced Locksmith and access control vendors in installation of electronic door hardware. Identifies and requests doors and hardware for installation in routine maintenance situations. Assists experienced locksmiths to review blueprints and hardware schedules for new construction with progressing proficiency. Assists with minor carpentry as it pertains to door and hardware installation.
20% - Essential - Operates key duplication machines, key cutters to make keys for new and existing locks. Repairs locks and mechanisms on office furniture. Cuts keys and builds cores for lock changes needed in university buildings. Repairs and installs locking mechanisms, including panic exit devices, mortise and cylindrical locks and office file and desk locks. Assists with the inventory of key blanks, lock cores, and other repair parts for mechanical or electric locks. Operates lock mortise machines, hinge butt routers, cylindrical boring jigs, and related tools as it pertains to the locksmithing trade.
10% - Essential - Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) policy. Complies with all EPA/DHEC rules. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between facilities shops.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Formal training or trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education - High School Diploma or Equivalent  and trade experience directly related to area of employment.
Work Experience: 1+ years

WORK SCHEDULE:

 

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00pm, some weekends, and subject to callbacks. Standard Hours: 40

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

 

Expected Salary Range: ($ 35,000.00 - $ 38,500.00)
 

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

 

Essential Level 1 employee
Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
