ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - TENURE TRACK POSITION IN MECHANICAL AND AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING

Clemson University’s School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering is looking for outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level, with research interests related to modeling, estimation and control of complex dynamical systems. Exceptional candidates are sought, particularly those who will dramatically enhance and compliment our core research thrusts - Future Materials and Manufacturing, Connectivity, AI/ML and Autonomous Systems, Energy and Sustainable Mobility, and Human-Technology Integration.

Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, data-driven modeling, estimation and control of dynamic systems, advanced control theory, AI/ML and autonomous systems, and innovative applications of control-theoretic tools to these areas.

Successful candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills, especially in classroom environments, and an ability to bring research and industry experiences effectively into classroom instruction.

The position will include a competitive salary and startup package to support the research mission of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. Candidates will interact with existing research groups within the school and throughout Clemson University and will participate in interdisciplinary research initiatives.

The School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering is a fully integrated tenure-granting graduate school within the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Science at Clemson University. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, and is partially funded with over $40 million in endowments. These positions will be based at Clemson’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) innovation campus in Greenville, South Carolina, but will have significant interaction with and presence at the main campus Mechanical Engineering facility. The CU-ICAR campus (http://www.cuicar.com) currently houses 20 companies and has interactions with over 200 industry partners, including top global manufacturers and suppliers. Mechanical Engineering (https://www.clemson.edu/cecas/departments/me/) on the main campus comprises 37 faculty in manufacturing & design, solid mechanics, and thermal/fluid systems areas. Clemson is a national, land grant and Tier-1 research University, currently ranked by US News & World Report as #31 among US public universities. South Carolina is home to over 300 automotive companies including original equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
