A TENURE TRACK POSITION IN ADVANCED MATERIALS

Clemson University’s Departments of Automotive Engineering (AuE) and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) are searching for outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The potential candidate’s primary appointment will be in AuE with a formal joint appointment in MSE.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to Materials Science, Automotive Engieering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, by the time of appointment and should demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research. We desire candidates whose expertise and approach align with both the core strengths and new areas for growth of each department. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to: energy and/or lightweight materials with applications to vehicle systems, advanced materials processing, materials informatics, accelerated materials discovery, and integrated approaches for materials and process innovations. Clemson University is a partner of Battelle Savannah River Associates for the management and operation of the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL); we seek candidates who can leverage opportunities with SRNL.

The Department of Automotive Engineering is a tenure-granting graduate department within the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Science at Clemson University. The AuE department, supported in part by $36M in endowments, has 16 tenure and tenure-track faculty and offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Automotive Engineering. The department has graduated over 1000 students since its inception in 2010 and is located on Clemson’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) innovation campus in Greenville, South Carolina. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. With a total of 22 tenure and tenure-track faculty members, the MSE department is based on the Clemson Main Campus at the new $130M Advanced Materials Innovation Complex (AMIC) resulting in new 140,000 gross square feet opening in January 2026. MSE has a history of faculty collaboration at multiple Clemson innovation campuses. The CU-ICAR campus currently houses 20 companies and has interactions with over 200 industry partners, including top global manufacturers and suppliers.
